Course Focus/Audience

Instructors and teachers of all kinds (professionals and parents), K-12 including general education teachers, special educators, reading specialists, teacher assistants and related service providers.

Course Purpose

This course provides an overview of fluency and how it impacts the reading process. As the essential bridge between word identification and comprehension, a wide range of effective strategies to build fluency from the sound to text level will be explored and demonstrated. Participants will also gain an understanding of the curricular specific tools that can be utilized to monitor fluency both informally and informally.

Outcome

Participants will be able to instruct learners in fluency activities and drills that will help develop accuracy and speed from the sound to the text level. They will also be able to track their progress via data collection and review practices.
