Building sight word reading and spelling automaticity is a specific and unique process for the beginning and struggling reader. Teaching students to develop those skills requires careful and purposeful attention. In this quick, easy and fun course teachers will learn step by step processes for building automaticity and fluency for both reading and spelling irregular words, those silly words that just don’t look the way they sound and vice versa! Engaging, multisensory strategies for introducing, practicing and collecting progress monitoring data will be presented, modeled and practiced. Materials and tools for instruction will be shared and suggested where applicable.
