The role of fluency and how it impacts the reading process has been a widely researched topic of interest. With the onset of RTI, fluency is routinely a skill that is assessed, measured, and monitored. Fluency can be considered the crucial bridge between word recognition and comprehension. The goal of this course is to provide a repertoire of strategies that improve fluency from the sound to the text level. In addition to a multitude of fluency-focused strategies, curricular tools for both formal and informal monitoring of oral reading fluency will be discussed.
